Mission Talk

On Thursday, January 11th, 75 Latino Evangelical church leaders from the states of Florida and Texas, visited Alabama's historic sites as part of Mission Talk's Justice Leadership Development Program. They arrived in Birmingham to learn more about the journey of African Americans and their struggle for civil rights.

Throughout the MLK holiday weekend, they traveled to Selma, concluding their time in Montgomery. During their time they listened to stories of local leaders, walked the legendary Edmund Pettis bridge in Selma, and visited the Civil Rights Institute, 16 St. Baptist Church, Rosa Parks Museum, Dexter Avenue Baptist Church & parsonage, and EJI’s Legacy Museum.

All were inspired by how everyday people - alongside & from so many churches! - stood up for just policies that would impact the daily lives of themselves and future generations

In an effort to capture the spirit of this historic trip, Mission Talk Films produced, A Chronicle on Latino Evangelicals Engaging with Black History. The film was released at the 2024 Celebrate Justice Convening in Orlando, Florida, April 12-13th.

Today we consider how public policies impact our communities and choose to remember what history has taught us, prayerfully discerning which mantles we too need to pick up to continue the long walk to freedom.

May God’s kingdom come. May His will be done on earth as it is in heaven and may we willingly and faithfully join Him in His reconciliation of all things.
