Alabama Overview
Mission Talk recently led an international delegation of Latino Pentecostal leaders on a three-day pilgrimage to Montgomery, Alabama, to study the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement. By visiting historic sites like the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church and the Legacy Museum, the bishops and pastors connected the historical struggle of the Black church with the modern challenges facing immigrant communities. The experience aimed to humanize the work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and ground the leaders' spiritual authority in a renewed commitment to social justice, mercy, and truth.
The pilgrimage has evolved into a broader movement, inspiring these faith leaders to adapt civil rights practices for the benefit of over 3.5 million congregants across the Americas. Participants, including notable figures like Bryan Stevenson and Dr. Justo L. González, emphasized the necessity of bridge-building between the Latino and African-American experiences. Consequently, Mission Talk is launching monthly pilgrimages to continue equipping local congregations with the strategies needed to advocate for civil and human rights in today's political climate.
