A truth that changes everything

By Pastor Ramon Nina

Maria had tried everything: self-help books, advice from friends, even online therapy. However, the emptiness in her heart remained, silent but constant. Every day she wondered why, even though she had known God since childhood, her life remained so fragmented. It was then, in the midst of her despair, that she heard a phrase in a sermon that changed everything: “The gospel is not just a message to get into heaven; it is the power of God to transform every corner of our lives.”

That truth became a turning point. Maria began to read the Word with new eyes, not as a religious text, but as a living letter that spoke to her wounds, her fears, and her decisions. Over time, what was once emptiness was transformed into joy, purpose, and peace. What changed was not only her circumstances, but how the gospel became real in her daily life.

This story reflects a reality we all face: we can know the gospel intellectually and yet live as if it had no power. But the good news is that the gospel is not an abstract concept; it is the power of God in action (Romans 1:16), capable of transforming our minds, our hearts, and our reality.

The gospel that transforms from within

Jesus said, “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:32).

Often our problems are exacerbated because we believe deep-seated lies: “I am alone,” “God no longer loves me,” “my past condemns me,” “there is no hope for me.”

But the gospel confronts each of these lies with God's truth:

  • In the face of abandonment, it declares, “I will never leave you nor forsake you” (Hebrews 13:5).

  • In the face of guilt, it proclaims, “There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1)

  • In the face of injustice, it reminds us that Christ suffered the greatest injustice for us (1 Peter 3:18).

When we embrace these truths, our minds begin to be renewed. And when our minds change, so do our emotions, decisions, and attitudes. The joy and peace of Christ begin to reign even in the midst of pain. Thus, the gospel becomes real not only as a belief but as a power that liberates from the inside out.

The gospel that transforms reality

The gospel is not just a truth we believe, but a Word that is active. Paul says it clearly: “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

Christ did not just speak of eternal life; He brought it through His death and resurrection. That new life is not just a future promise; it is a present reality. That is why the gospel:

  • Heals wounded hearts and sick bodies.

  • Restores broken families and damaged relationships.

  • Freed those who are captive to habits, fears, or sins.

  • Opens doors in the midst of impossible situations.

Although not everything changes immediately, we have the assurance that “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion” (Philippians 1:6). The gospel is evidence that God not only forgives our past, but is actively transforming our present and securing our future.

“The gospel does not begin by changing our external circumstances, but rather our minds and hearts.”

An invitation to live the gospel today

It is power that transforms the confused mind, heals the wounded heart, lifts up the fallen, restores what is broken, and gives purpose to what seemed lost.

Perhaps today you face a struggle that seems to have no solution. Remember: the gospel does not promise to eliminate all problems immediately, but it does promise to empower you to face them with hope. Christ did not come only to change your eternal destiny; He came to transform your present.

So today, I invite you to stop seeing the gospel as a distant idea and embrace it as a close reality. Allow its truth to renew your mind and its power to transform your world. Because when the gospel becomes real in our daily lives, we no longer live as slaves to fear, guilt, or pain, but free in the power of the God who makes all things new.

“The gospel is not just the news of what Christ did two thousand years ago; it is the living reality of what He continues to do in you and through you today.”
